Problem solving

Problem solving is the hardest thing for my students but we have worked very hard everyday learning strategies to make us successful. Here is a tool I use with them to organize their thinking.
I also encourage the kids to explain to me how they know they choose the right operation and worked through it correctly. Here are some examples of your children's explanations.

Math has been learning fractions!

For the next three weeks, we will learn about fractional parts of a whole. I challenge you to start asking your children the fraction when splitting things into parts. For example, our pizza is divided into 8 parts, and we each took two pieces. What is the fraction of how many pieces we got. The answer would be two eighths. In third grade, they will need to read the fraction as a "th" number. In second grade, they said 2 out of 8 pieces. Here is a picture of our work this week!
